Humbled

Today has been a humbling day for me.  We have two new residents here at the Village of Eden.

Margaret and Janet.

Janet

Janet is 14 years old and lives with her mother

Margaret

Margaret is 9 years old and lives with her grandmother.

They are not sisters, we met both of them during our Medical Clinic we held a few weeks ago.  Both of them are sick and their families cannot care for them properly.  So, God has led us to move them here to the Village of Eden.  Even as I write this, I am getting teary eyed - their faces - so scared, so small - I can't imagine what they are thinking.

We showed them the room that they will be sharing.  Neither girl had ever slept on a bed!  I showed them their dresser where they can store their things - they each only came with one other outfit - all their possessions. [humbling]

We fed them lunch because neither they nor their mother or grandmother had eaten today. [humbling]

Then I let them choose 3 dresses from our supply that churches send.  We found 4 different dresses that fit Margaret and I asked her to choose 3.  She was so overwhelmed at the idea of being able to choose!  She just stood and stared and when she finally made her choice, she barely moved her hand to point at the dress. [humbling]

When Janet's mother saw that she was getting  3 dresses, she took the clothes that Janet had worn over here away from her.   The mother is going to take them back home for another child to use. [humbling]

Tomorrow they will start school here - neither child has been atteding school regularly due to their illnesses.  Janet, who is 14 cannot read and is in 1st grade. [humbling]

Please pray for both of these girls.  They are going to be experiencing so many new things over the course of the next few weeks and months.  Pray that they first feel loved and accepted here.  Pray that they come to know the Lord as their personal Savior.  Pray that Helping Hands can help them to grow and be as healthy as possible.
