"Um, well. It is different, I don't know how to describe it exactly."

I can't tell you how many times I have had the conversation above! So, here is an example of how life is different in Uganda.
The other day, we had a training day for Esangalo Helpers; there were about 100 youth in attendance. At the same time, the farm supervisor decided he needed to clear the field that is right beside the church and kitchen. So, he set the field on fire!
Now, in America, a fire that huge would have brought fire trucks, we would have canceled the training and sent the children home. If we had not sent them home, we would have been accused of endangering their lives, etc.
Here, in Uganda, life went on as usual. They cleared the field, lunch continued and the children never even acted as though the raging fire was affecting them!
I love this picture, Gertrude just keeps serving lunch, like nothing out of the ordinary is happening! |
Things ares so different here, how do you describe it?
The workers just continued sitting after lunch, watching the fire. |
